Preschool & Kindergarten
A child’s first school experience should feel joyful, safe, and encouraging, and Wilson Hall’s preschool and kindergarten program is designed to make these early years a wonderful beginning. In a warm and nurturing environment, young students are introduced to school routines, early academic skills, friendships, creativity, and play, all while being cared for by teachers who understand the importance of these first steps.
Preschool and kindergarten classes are self-contained, and each teacher has a full-time teaching assistant in the classroom. Located in their own special area of campus, our youngest students remain in their own building and enjoy playgrounds designed just for them. Please note that preschool and kindergarten students must be completely potty-trained before beginning school.
Wilson Hall faculty thoughtfully support student learning and provide appropriate classroom accommodations when possible. However, the school does not offer extraordinary academic programs for students with special needs.
Preschool 3
The 3-year-old preschool is for students who turn three by September 1 and meets five days a week from 8:10 AM until 12:00 PM. This structured, age-appropriate program introduces children to beginning math, reading, and writing concepts through hands-on learning and purposeful play. Students also develop important social skills, such as sharing, listening, taking turns, and being part of a group, through classroom stations, organized play, and time on the playground. Each week, students visit the art studio, library, music studio, and gymnasium for classes taught by specialized teachers.
Preschool 4
The 4-year-old preschool is for students who turn four by September 1 and meets five days a week from 8:10 AM until 1:55 PM, with an optional noon dismissal. Building on the 3-year-old program, students continue developing math skills, begin writing, and build the foundation for reading. Hands-on learning and learning through play remain an important part of each day, helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Students also visit the art studio, library, music studio, and gymnasium each week for classes taught by specialized teachers.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is for students who turn five by September 1 and provides a structured, supportive program that helps children develop confidence as learners. Students work toward mastering basic number concepts, letter recognition, early reading skills, and beginning writing techniques. Many kindergarten students are reading and writing simple sentences by the end of the first semester. As in preschool, learning through play and hands-on activities remains an important part of the experience. Art, library, music, physical education, and STEAM Lab are also included in the kindergarten curriculum.
