High School

This broad academic experience helps students become thoughtful readers, clear writers, creative problem solvers, confident speakers, and independent thinkers. Traditional teaching methods, including textbooks, writing, discussion, direct instruction, and careful study, remain central to the classroom experience. Technology, including school-provided Chromebooks, is used thoughtfully as a tool to support learning when it enhances instruction.

As a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math certified school, Wilson Hall also gives students meaningful opportunities for hands-on learning, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creativity. These experiences complement the school’s strong liberal arts foundation and help students make connections across disciplines.

Because Wilson Hall is a college preparatory school, and all students are accepted to a four-year college or university, courses are taught at an advanced level. Eligible students may also take honors and Advanced Placement courses for an even greater academic challenge. Wilson Hall offers 21 AP courses, more than any school in the area, taught at the college level by specially trained faculty members. At the end of the year, students may take nationally standardized AP exams and potentially earn college credit. For some students, this opportunity has made a significant difference, with graduates earning more than 30 hours of college credit before beginning college.

AP courses are especially valuable because the exams are nationally standardized and widely recognized by colleges and universities across the country. Many college admissions counselors value AP coursework because it demonstrates a student’s readiness for college-level expectations.

High school students follow a seven-period schedule with different teachers for each subject, and the school day is from 8:05 AM until 2:35 PM.

Wilson Hall faculty thoughtfully support student learning and provide appropriate classroom accommodations when possible. However, the school does not offer extraordinary academic programs for students with special needs.
