A Cross Rooted in Prayer

Hanging in Founders Chapel, the cross created and gifted to Wilson Hall by renowned sculptor Grainger McKoy carries a meaningful connection to faith and history. Crafted from reclaimed beams from the Church of the Holy Cross, its plaque notes that “since the early 1850s, this wood has been marinated in prayer” and inspired the cross’s simplicity and humility. A small wood-burned feather is the only mark of McKoy’s craftsmanship. As students and faculty gather in the chapel for worship, prayer, reflection, and fellowship, the cross serves as a quiet reminder of the faith that remains at the heart of the Wilson Hall community.
