Turning curiosity into experiments and teamwork into discovery, middle school students dove into Mad Scientist Morning, rotating through three grade-level stations selected from nine different hands-on labs and enjoying a well-earned break outside in the beautiful weather. Students explored states of matter and physical versus chemical changes by combining cream, sugar, and vanilla with ice and salt to transform a liquid mixture into ice cream. Other experiments investigated osmosis and diffusion using vegetables, germ detection with black lights and glow gel, and whether yeast is living or nonliving through a controlled experiment. Led by faculty teams, the activities strengthened students’ skills in observation, measurement, communication, and collaboration while bringing chemistry, physics, and biology to life. Science teachers Mrs. Mindy Busch, Mrs. Cecelia Ormond, and Mrs. Erin Trueblood coordinated the STEAM event.
